How removal van size is estimated

Why a proper inventory matters more than guessing from bedroom count.

Every move is different. Use this guide as a starting point and adapt it to your property, access, dates and belongings.

Start with volume

Two homes with the same bedroom count can contain very different amounts. Lofts, garages, gardens and storage units are often missed.

Include awkward items

Long sofas, pianos, American-style fridges and large plants affect usable space and loading order.

Allow for protection

Blankets, covers, dismantled parts and safe stacking require room. Packing everything tightly is not the same as loading safely.

Choose a survey for larger moves

A video or home survey reduces guesswork and helps plan the crew, number of vehicles and realistic timing.

List spaces people forget

Sheds, lofts, balconies, garages and storage units can add substantial volume. Include long or non-stackable pieces and items that need protection or dismantling.

Avoid guessing from a photograph of one room

A full inventory, item dimensions and a video or home survey give a better basis for capacity. Ask whether one vehicle or multiple journeys are planned and who carries at both addresses.
