Every move is different. Use this guide as a starting point and adapt it to your property, access, dates and belongings.

Use small boxes for dense items

Books, tools and tins become too heavy in large cartons. Small strong boxes protect the bottom from overloading and make safe lifting easier.

Reserve medium boxes for general belongings

Use medium cartons for kitchenware, toys and folded clothing. Fill gaps with suitable paper or cushioning and avoid leaving heavy objects free to move around.

Protect specialist items

Wardrobe cartons, mattress covers, picture protection and television cartons may be useful, depending on the item and the length of the journey. Ask about custom protection for delicate artwork.

Label for unloading

Mark the destination room, general contents and handling needs on the side and top. A simple numbering system helps you check the inventory at delivery.

Estimate from an inventory

Households vary greatly. Walk through each room, cupboard, loft and garage to estimate cartons, then ask for a materials bundle or packing survey before buying too much.
