Every move is different. Use this guide as a starting point and adapt it to your property, access, dates and belongings.

Identify the instrument

Confirm whether it is an upright, baby grand or grand piano, and provide dimensions, make and approximate weight if known.

Survey every step

Count steps and photograph landings, corners, thresholds, slopes and floor surfaces. Some routes require lifting equipment or a dedicated specialist.

Prepare the destination

Choose a stable position away from direct heat and allow a clear route. Protect flooring and ensure the room is ready before arrival.

Arrange tuning later

Movement and a new environment can affect tuning. Allow the piano to settle, then use a qualified tuner.

Understand the limits of a normal van service

A piano's weight and balance make stairs, sharp turns and uneven ground particularly important. Some jobs require a specialist contractor or lifting equipment; a responsible quotation follows the route assessment.

Confirm cover and responsibilities

Declare the make, model and value, and ask what protection and insurance terms apply. Clear the access route and arrange any building permissions before moving day.
